Learning
We use a varied and stimulating curriculum based on the Government’s new Early Years Foundation Stage which sets the standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth to five. The EYFS is made up of six aspects of Learning and Development:
-
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
-
Communication, Language & Literacy
-
Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy
-
Knowledge & Understanding of the World
-
Physical Development
-
Creative Development
The six aspects of Learning and Development are underpinned by the Principles of the EYFS:
A unique child:
Every child can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured, and we aim to
ensure that each child is included and looked after in a safe and healthy environment.
Positive Relationships:
We aim to ensure that by following a ‘key worker’ system we provide each child with a loving safe and secure environment to enable them to learn to be strong and independent little people. We teach children to respect each other irrespective of gender, creed, culture or religion and work closely with parents to support their chilld’s learning.
Enabling environments:
We aim to extend each child’s development and learning capability by observation, assessment and planning - offering them continued support throughout their time with us.
Learning and Development:
Each child’s development and learning capability is different, so our aim is to again extend their specific capability to the utmost, in a fun, happy, relaxed and child oriented environment.
Our varied and stimulating curriculum also covers the six learning outcomes:
Language and Literacy:
Children are encouraged to talk and communicate in a widening range of situations, to respond to adults and to each other, to practice and extend the range of vocabulary and communication skills they use and to listen carefully
Personal and Social Development:
Provides opportunities for each child to become a valued member of the group and community promoting strong self image, and self-esteem.
Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy:
Children develop their understanding of number, measurement, patterns, shapes and space by using a broad range of activities in which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practice and discuss.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World:
We give opportunities for all children to solve problems, make decisions, experiment, predict, plan and question in a variety of contexts, and to explore and find out about their environment and people and places that have significance in their lives. We arrange visits from the Emergency Services and other professionals, to broaden the children’s knowledge of the world.
Physical Development:
All children are able to develop and practice their fine and gross motor skills and increase their understanding of how their bodies work and what they need to do to keep healthy and safe.
Creative Development:
All children can explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of art, design and technology, music, movement, dance and imaginative and role play activities.
